It is easy to look for nature’s grandeur in the largest animals and the widest landscapes. Yet sometimes wonder is waiting in something almost too small to notice.
I spotted this tiny creature peering over the edge of a leaf, its eyes and face emerging just enough to make the scene feel almost playful. The scale was completely different from photographing lions, bears, or elephants, but the sense of discovery was every bit as strong.
The photograph made me smile. It reminded me how much of the living world exists below the threshold of our usual attention. A leaf can become a landscape. A tiny insect can become a character. Curiosity changes the scale of the world.
Photography has taught me that there is no such thing as an insignificant subject when we are willing to look closely enough.
Wonder is not determined by size. Sometimes it is hiding on the other side of a leaf.
